AEDP is a collaborative, relational therapy designed to help you process deep emotional pain and trauma by focusing on the present moment. Unlike traditional therapies that focus primarily on analyzing thoughts and behaviors, AEDP is deeply rooted in the power of the therapeutic relationship. From day one, we work explicitly as a team so that you do not have to face your heaviest, most overwhelming feelings alone.

Instead of just talking about your experiences, AEDP invites you to safely feel and process your emotions in real-time during our sessions. By mindfully noticing the physical sensations and emotions arising in your body, we can move past old defenses and unlock your body’s natural, built-in capacity for healing. This active, supportive approach helps transform painful experiences into a deep sense of relief.

EMDR

Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

EMDR is a specialized therapy that helps the brain process and heal from traumatic or highly stressful life experiences. When an event is overwhelming, it can get "stuck" in the nervous system, causing us to relive the original panic or anxiety even years later. EMDR helps the brain reprocess these stuck memories, removing their intense emotional charge so they can finally be stored as normal, historical past events.

During EMDR reprocessing, you won’t have to talk through every painful detail. Instead, you will focus briefly on the memory while following alternating left-right patterns, such as moving your eyes back and forth or tapping your shoulders. This movement, known as bilateral stimulation, mimics the natural brain activity of REM sleep and helps to soothe the nervous system so your brain can safely file the memory away.

Polyvagal Therapy

Polyvagal Therapy focuses on understanding and regulating your autonomic nervous system to help you feel grounded, safe, and emotionally balanced. When we experience chronic stress or trauma, our body's internal radar can get stuck in survival mode. Polyvagal theory maps out how our nervous system automatically shifts between three primary states based on perceived safety.

Polyvagal Therapy helps you identify exactly how your body is responding at any given moment. Instead of just talking about your thoughts, we’ll track your physical sensations and physiological responses in real-time. By learning to recognize when your system has shifted into a defensive state, we will use somatic (body-based) exercises to gently guide your body back safety.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma-informed care is an approach to therapy that recognizes how deeply impactful chronic stress and trauma can be. Instead of viewing symptoms like anxiety, anger, or hyper-vigilance as flaws or problems, this framework views them as brilliant survival strategies that your mind and body developed to protect you during difficult times.

My trauma-informed approaches prioritize your physical and emotional safety, choice, and empowerment above all else. Because trauma can strip away your sense of control, our work together is centered around your needs, ensuring you are never pushed to share or feel more than you are ready for. By building a transparent relationship, we create a predictable space where you can safely explore your past and work toward healing at your own pace.
